The PACTUAL research project – Cultural Heritage and Tourism in Alentejo: motivations and experiences of Portuguese visitors and tourists – is based at CIDEHUS / University of Évora (UÉVORA) and is funded by national funds through the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
The project is grounded in the recognition of the importance of both tangible and intangible heritage in the Alentejo region. Its main objectives focus on studying the cultural tourism experience of Portuguese tourists and visitors in the region, as well as developing cultural tourism indicators to support the work of ASTO, under the umbrella of the ASTO Heritage brand.
Following a scientific approach over the course of two years, the research team carried out data collection, systematic literature reviews, and fieldwork. This process has led to a range of outputs, initiatives, and discoveries.
